Haydarpasa port (port code: TRHAY) is the main port of Istanbul, serving the Istanbul region and a hinterland which is the most industrialised area of Turkey. It is situated on the east side of the south entrance to the Bosporus and has two breakwaters to protect vessels from the effects of the sea.
This port has great importance being the only container port in the Marmara Region. It has important trade with countries having a coast on the Black Sea, including a regular Ro-Ro service between Haydarpasa-Constantza-Haydarpasa. It is also important for transport between Central and North European countries and Middle East through the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal and Black Sea.
This port handles approximately 1,840,000t of general cargo, 1,650,000t of containers, 68,000t of dry bulk and 1,900 vessels annually. The types of vessels regularly calling at this port are cargo vessels, accounting for about 49%; tankers, taking up around 18%; and passenger vessels, taking a proportion of 10%. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 295 meters. The maximum draught is 9.8 meters. The maximum deadweight is 66441t.
