Helsinki port (port code: FIHEL) is Finland's largest general cargo import port, second largest export port and leading container and passenger port. It is situated on the south coast of Finland at the mouth of the River Vantaa, in the Gulf of Finland.
Covering a total area of 164 hectares and providing over 11,046 meters of quays, this port originally has four harbours, namely West Harbour, South Harbour, Laajasalo Oil Harbour (closed end 2010) and Vuosaari Harbour. West Harbour specialises in container transport and Vuosaari Harbour in container and Ro-Ro transport. Passenger services are mostly concentrated in the South Harbour and partly in the West Harbour.
The port handles approximately 8,740 vessels, 10,200,000t of cargo, including 400,000TEU and 10,000 passengers annually. The types of vessels regularly calling at this port are cargo vessels, accounting for 65.69%; and passenger vessel, taking up 6.86%. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 316 meters. The maximum draught is 9.1 meters. The maximum deadweight is 113,095t.
