Kisarazu Port (Port Code:JPKZU) has prospered as a port for collecting and distributing supplies since ancient times, and now it plays an important role in economic activities in the southern part of Chiba Prefecture, such as the formation of an industrial zone centered around Nippon Steel Corporation. In May 2011, the port was selected as one of the "International Strategic Bulk Ports" for the realization of stable transportation of iron ore, and in January 2013, a large ore vessel operated by Vale Brazil (commonly known as VALE MAX, deadweight is 402,000t) called at the port.
The port, which is divided into Inner Harbour, Kisarazu South and Futtsu districts, has extensive public and private berthage serving the local steel, chemical and lumber industries. The port handles mainly bulk aggregates, general cargo, timber, raw materials and LNG for the Futtsu Thermal Power Station. Approx 26,500 vessels visit the port and 64,834,000t of cargo handled annually.
