Kunak Port (Port code:MYKUN) serves as a dedicated crude palm oil port. With a boost from major palm oil players, it is projected that 1.4 million tones of palm oil will be handled by Kunak Port, making it a major palm oil port. Plans are underway to make Kunak Port become the East Coast’s Central Hub for the export of Palm Kernel Expeller.
Kunak is situated on the east coast of Sabah. The port serves the hinterland with general cargo and exports palm oil. The port has a simple landing jetty for loading and unloading small volumes of essential commodities for the people living in the surrounding areas. There is also an oil jetty for tankers that call regularly to collect the palm oil from the two privately owned estates. Due to the establishment of the road link from Tawau to Lahad Datu, the use of the port's jetty for dry cargo loading has diminished. Timber, tobacco and hemp are exported.
