Port-La Nouvelle (Port Code:FRLNO) is France’ s third commercial port on the Mediterranean. It is ranked number one for grain exports and number two for hydrocarbon imports. Hydrocarbon imports represent about 1,100,000 tons of white products distributed throughout the south of France and Andorra.
Because Port-La Nouvelle is a regionally owned port, the Harbour Master refers both to the State and to the Regional Council of Occitanie / Pyrénées Méditerranée. For the State Authorities, the Harbour Master has authority on the traffic control, regulation of hazardous commodities, security and safety measures as well as assistance to ships in difficulty.
The port and its terminals are connected to rail. Distribution by trains, especially to northern Europe is easy by joining the dedicated freight corridor that runs from the Rhone Valley up to northern France.
