Manado (Port Code:IDMDC) is a commercial port not open to foreign trade. It is the trade centre and the chief port in the north part of Sulawesi. Manado is located on the northwest coast of Sulawesi. The port caters for local vessels handling general cargo and local ferry services between Manado and the ports along the north coast of Sulawesi and Davao in Philippines. Exports include sugar, coffee, nutmeg, copra, and ebony.
The port was formerly under the management branch of PT. Pelindo IV Bitung. Since 1st January 2011, Port of Manado became a stand-alone branch under PT. Pelindo IV Headquarters in Makassar. The business segment of the port are ships services, goods, passengers, storage and property. The main business segment of Manado port is passengers service for inter-island (fast ferry/speed boat).
In general, the ships berthing in the port of Manado are fast ferry serves to Sangir and Talaud Islands. The large-sized of vessels such as container vessel, conventional vessel and passenger vessel owned by PT. PELNI (Persero) are berthing in the port of Bitung, which is located about 40 km East of Manado City.
