Matane (Port Code:CAMAT) is located on the south shore of the St Lawrence River, approx 400km east of Quebec City. The harbour is enclosed between 2 breakwaters, which extend approx 0.5nm offshore. The port comprises several marine installations under different ownership. The Commercial wharf area, which includes Berth 1, West breakwater and spur wharf, are owned by Transport Canada. Transport Quebec owns the East breakwater and marshalling yard. The spur wharf is used to moor laid up and overwintering vessels. Quebec Port Terminals Inc. operate Berth 1. The main cargoes handled include, oil products, calcium, lumber and paper products.

The west breakwater contributes to the protection of the inner structures of the port.
