Mexicali Port (port code: MXMXL) is a port of entry to Mexico from the United States, serving for passenger and freight/commercial purposes. It is situated in a broad depression of the Colorado Desert known locally as the Mexicali Valley (the southern extension of California’s Imperial Valley), across the Mexico-U.S. border from Calexico, California, in Baja California estado (state), northwestern Mexico.
The port handles tourists, immigrants, and shipments of irrigated crops (mainly fruits, vegetables, cotton, and cereals). Consumer electronics (notably computer monitors and televisions) produced by local maquiladoras (export-oriented assembly plants) are also handled.
