Michigan City port (port code: USMGC) is a medium-sized port, situated on the southwest shore of Lake Michiganin in Michigan City, LaPorte County, Indiana, United States, approximately sixty miles southeast of Chicago Harbor in Chicago, IL.
The port was once a deep draft commercial harbor. It is protected by 2,304 linear feet of timber crib breakwaters, a West Pier which is 835 feet long and an East Pier which is 2,276 feet long.
The harbor is the safe refuge on southern Lake Michigan for recreational boats. The types of vessels regularly calling at the port are pleasure craft, accounting for 79% and sailing vessels, which take up 12%. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 31 meters.
