Minamata (Port Code:JPMIN) was traditionally a fishing port and has regular sea-route connections to Amakusa Island, the main island of the Amakusa archipelago. Hot springs are found in the vicinity. Minamata is situated on the southwest coast of Kyushu in Kumamoto Prefecture, approx 50km south of Yatsushiro. The port is well protected by land and small islands and provides safe anchorage and alongside berths. Over 40 vessels visit the port annually.
