Port of Mistley (Port Code:GBMIS) mainly handles cargoes for distribution nationwide. The port is located on the River Stour approximately 10 miles from Harwich, and is part of the Haven group of ports connecting the UK with the Southern North Sea and offering easy access to the Continent, the Baltic and the Mediterranean.
Mistley Port lies at the core of the historical heart of the village, providing a source of local employment in a commercial port handling approximately 150,000 tonnes of cargo a year. The Port and adjoining land lies within the designated Conservation Areas and contains numerous listed and unlisted buildings of architectural and historic interest.The first quay was built around 1720 and trade went on from that quay up to Sudbury. Around about 1770, the quay was enlarged by Richard Rigby and was known as Port of Mistley.
