Miyako (Port Code:JPMKO) is an important fishing port and the centre of an important trade in timber and associated products. Miyako is situated on the Sea of Japan coast of Honshu on the south side of Wakasa Wan. The port, blessed with rich Sanriku offshore fisheries and sheltered from the open sea by Omoe Peninsula where the easternmost point of Japan’s mainland is located, has prospered in the fishing and shipping industries since it was opened in 1615. A breakwater runs south from Ryujinsaki, the south point of this promontory, protecting the port from all winds. Max size: In 1998, Saga Sky, a vessel of 29,381t, draught 10.3m, berthed alongside at Fujiwara Wharf No 2.
