The Freeport of Monrovia (Port Code:LRMLW) is the main commercial port facility in the West African nation of Liberia. The Freeport of Monrovia is a landlord port that has concessions partnerships with APM Terminals, Firestone, China Union and Western Cluster. It is currently the largest port within our authority network, however, it was built originally by the United States Military for strategic purposes during World War II. Currently, the harbor at the Freeport of Monrovia is protected by two rock breakwaters approximately 2,300 meters and 2,200 meters long, enclosing a basin of 300 hectares of protected water. The marginal wharf (main pier) is 600 meters long and capable of berthing 3 to 4 ships, dependent on the vessel size. The Freeport of Monrovia also has three finger piers: Liberia Mining Company (LMC), National Iron Ore Company (NIOC), and Bong Mines Company (BMC) Piers. The facility contains four piers and one main wharf with four berths. The port also has tanker facilities and a fishery pier. The National Port Authority operates it.
