Nikiski port (Port Code:USNIK) is used for the receipt of crude oil, materials and equipment for offshore oil wells. Petroleum products, LNG, liquid ammonia and urea are also handled. It is located on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula about 11 nautical miles (17 kilometers or 10 miles by air) northwest of the Port of Kenai. Several oil refineries are located in the Port Nikiski where oil from the North Slope is processed to gasoline. Port Nikiski's docks also support offshore drilling. In addition to the oil industry, inhabitants find employment in logging, commercial and sport fishing, retail, government, and tourism services.
The port facilities at Nikiski are located on the east side of Cook Inlet, approx 13km northwest of the town of Kenai, on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. The facilities consist of a wharf and three 'T' jetties. Each jetty is privately owned and operated. Ice floes can become a severe problem at berths during Jan and Feb. Approx 180 vessels with a total of 8,800,000DWT handled annually.
