Nouadhibou (Port Code:MRNDB) is situated in north Mauritania, close to the border with Western Sahara. Nouadhibou port has 2 general cargo berths and an iron ore terminal situated 15km south at Point Central, operated by SNIM. Pointe des Mouettes tanker berth is 1.2km north of Point Central and consists of a "T" jetty. Approx 11,000,000t iron ore handled annually. Max size: Nouadhibou: LOA 160m, max draught 7.2m. Port Central: LOA 310m, beam 54.0m, max draught 16.15m, airdraught 15.0m, 172,000DWT. Minimum LOA 124m, minimum beam 24.0m. Quai Petrolier: LOA 200m, draught 12.0m, 50,000DWT, 65,000t displacement.
The port of Nouadhibou is the final resting place of over 300 ships and hence the world’s largest ship graveyard. Nouadhibou has always been an important transit point for international transport. Near the harbour is the terminus of Mauritania's only railway line, which mainly brings iron ore from the mining areas near Fdérik and Zouérat, which are located up to 704 kilometres (437 mi) inland.
