The port of Paris (Port Code:FRPAR) is situated on the River Seine between 230km and 480km from the sea. Paris is the first inland port in France and second in Europe, with 20 million tons transported by waterway in 2008. In tourism – passenger transport and activities – the port even ranks first in the whole world, with over 7 million passengers landing and embarking in 2008.
The Port Authority is responsible for the following ports, having a maritime trade: Bonnieres, Mantes, Limay, Nanterre, Gennevilliers, Saint-Ouen, Evry and Montereau. The port of Paris has under its control 300 port facilities on 500km of navigable waterways of the Greater Paris region (Seine, Oise, Marne, Yonne, Loing). Many of them are attainable by seagoing vessels. Vessels are generally berthed at the premises of the company receiving or sending goods, these premises being either private or rented from the port of Paris Authority.
Since June 1st 2021, the ports of Le Havre, Rouen and Paris, have now merged to form a single port : HAROPA PORT, the Seine axis Major River & Sea Port.
