The Port of Pärnu (Port Code:EEPRN) is located in the southwestern part of Estonia at the mouth of the Pärnu River and in recent years it has become a significant regional port in southwestern and southern Estonia. The hinterland of Pärnu port is Pärnu, Viljandi, Tartu, Põlva, Võru and Valga counties, as well as Lääne and Järva counties. In the hinterland, a significant part of the raw material resources exported through Estonian ports (up to 45% of the forest resource and up to 65% of the peat resource) and the processing industry are located.
The first mention of the port dates back in 13th century. The flourishing of port started at the end of 18th century and at the beginning of 19th century. The main exports of the port being timber and flax. In modern times, the port has regular cruises between Kihnu and Ruhnu. To protect the port area, the Mole of Pärnu (Pärnu Breakwaters) was built. The total length of two breakwaters is 5 km. The breakwaters were built in 1863–1864.
