The Port of Pontianak (Port Code:IDPNK), located on the banks of the Kapuas River, is the economic pulse of the city and connects an area of 146.8 thousand km in West Kalimantan Province. The Pontianak Crossing Port is the main passenger port. It allows ferry connection to other cities in Indonesia such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan, Batam, etc. The port currently does not serve international destinations such as Singapore and Malaysia. The port has anchorages and alongside berths, and is visitied by local and foreign vessels. Frequent showers between August and February may affect the working of cargo. The principal exports are rubber, spices, coconut and timber products. Import commodities include rice, cement, fuel, sugar, fertiliser, chemicals and asphalt.
