Port Pirie (Port Code: AUPPI) is a port located on the eastern shore and near the head of Spencer Gulf. It is the second most important and busiest seaport of South Australia (after Port Adelaide Enfield). It has become a natural port for the export of lead ore from Broken Hill, New South Wales (220 miles [354 km] northeast). The types of vessels regularly calling at the are Bulk Carrier, General Cargo, SAR. Its marine facilities, managed by Flinders Ports, handle up to 100 ship visits annually, up to Handymax size, for commodities such as mineral concentrates, refined lead and zinc, coal, grain, and general cargo.
