Porto Santo Stefano (Port Code:ITPSS) is regarded as the gateway to Giglio Island, with many hour long sailings departing the port each day. It is situated on the northern shore of the promontory of Monteargentario on Italy's western coast. The port is small with cargo worked at the eastern end (Banchina Toscana) with a total berthing length of 135m (although only 120m are available) and a 3t rail crane. Ferry services exist from Pontile del Valle to Giglio Island operating 3 or 4 times daily. Any other moorings exist primarily for yachts and fishing vessels, although the Eastern breakwater is used by the Italian Air Force as a terminal for stern moored tankers. There is no drydock facility, but a small ship repair service is available. Bunkers, general provisions and towage services can be ordered, these arriving via Livorno. Approx 60,000t of phosphates are loaded/unloaded annually, and as many as 435,000 passengers (96,000 cars) move through the port. Largest vessel handled: "Missouri", 8,000DWT general cargo vessel.
