Sawakin Port (Port Code: SDSUA), also known as Suakin, is a port t lying on the Red Sea coast 36 miles (58 km) south of Port Sudan. It was formerly the region's chief port, but is now secondary to Port Sudan. Suakin port has an inlet, approximately 2 miles long. The old port is no longer used for commercial traffic, the new port of Osman Digma, to the east of the old port, has been developed. The main traffic consists of container, Ro-Ro, LPG and coastal vessels. There is also pilgrim passenger traffic to Saudi Arabia.
