The Port of Saint Louis (Port Code: SNXLS) is a port city of Senegal, capital of St. Louis district. On the island of NDAR at the mouth of the Senegalese river. In 1626, France invaded the island and named it Saint Louis. The population is 96000 (1979). The oldest seaport in West Africa, built in 1659. Before 1902, it was the residence of the Governor General of French West Africa, with prosperous commerce. After the completion of the railway to Dakar in 1885, it gradually became an auxiliary port and an important fishing port in Dakar. There are slaughterhouses and fish processing, dairy, textile and other industries. Export fish, peanuts, leather and gum arabic. There is an air station. To the south, Barry tongue park is a bird and turtle reserve.
