The Port of St. Petersburg is (port code: RULED) a major seaport located on the eastern shores of the Gulf of Finland, at the mouth of the Neva River in Northwestern Russia. Riverports on both banks of the Neva River are interconnected with the system of seaports, thus making St. Petersburg the main link between the Baltic Sea and the rest of Russia through the Volga–Baltic Waterway.
The Port of St. Petersburg has three large cargo terminals, handling a wide range of cargo like containers, bulk commodities, and liquid goods. With an annual cargo throughput of over 50 million tons, it is one of the largest ports in the country and serves as a crucial gateway for international trade and transportation.
During winter, the temperature in the Gulf of Finland drops below freezing point, and the water in St. Petersburg Port gets covered with ice, requiring icebreakers to ensure uninterrupted navigation at the port.
