Tartus port (port code: SYTTS) is a major commercial harbour and a naval base as well as a tourist centre. It lies approximately 35 kilometers north of the Lebanese border. Approximately 4 nautical miles north of the harbour is the Tartus Oil terminal and oil refinery.
The port has facilities for handling various cargoes including containers, bulk minerals, liquids and grain, general and Ro-Ro traffic. It also offers a sheltered harbour, protected by two long breakwaters, consisting four basins separated by Moles A, B and C, with approximately 5,130 meters of berthing space.
Each year approximately 2,750 vessels, 12,000,000t of cargo and 52,600TEU are handled by the port. The type of vessels regularly calling at the port is general cargo vessels, accounting for 52%. With a maximum draught of 9.1 meters and a maximum deadweight of 47123t, the maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 190 meters.
