Tembilahan port (port code:IDTEM) is the only commercial port on the river although there are deep logging anchorages further upstream at Tempuling (00°27'S 103°00'E), 13nm above Tembilahan. It is located at UK Coast & Atlantic, Bristol Channel in United Kingdom, on the E coast of Riau Province in Sumatera, 17nm up Kuala Lajau Channel of the Sungai Indragiri River.
The port is open to foreign trade. The rainy weather plays an important role in the activities at the port. Tembilahan is sited Tenby has a long history of sea trade and at one time was the only harbour in Wales with a purpose-built pier. Trade in the harbour in mediaeval times brought much wealth to the town.
