Waigaoqiao Port (Port Code: CNWGQ), built in October 1994, is an integrated seaport area in Pudong New Area, Shanghai. It mainly serves for the economic activities of Pudong area and Yangtze River Delta. Also, it is planned to be a deep-water port area and a international container terminal.
Waigaoqiao Port consists of two ports:Gaoqiaozui and Wuhaogou. In April 2011, Waigaoqiao Port was declared to open its deep-water channel by Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration and Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd. (SIPG), making it possible for container vessels with 5,000 TEU to berth at the port. According to official data, now the deepest part of the port could reach -13 meters.
Now, Waiqiaogang Port’ s container terminal serves many shipping routes, including destinations of: America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, etc.
