Wilmington port (port code: USILG) is a large port in the United States. Situated in Delaware, midway between New York City and Washington DC, it is the first inbound deep water port on the Delaware River, 65 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. As North America's No 1 gateway for imports of fresh fruit, juice concentrates and palletised frozen beef, it is the largest container terminal on the Delaware River and the world's primary banana hub, with large dockside cold storage facilities.
The port handles approximately 4,500,000t of cargo, 810,000TEU and 400 vessels annually. The cargoes handled include fruit, juice concentrates, frozen meat, KLB, newsprint, lumber, steel, vehicles, dry and liquid bulk. The types of vessels handled mainly include bulk carriers, accounting for 25%; and vehicles carriers, accounting for 21%.
