On April 16, CMA CGM LISA MARIE, an 11000-TEU container ship of CMA CGM, was involved in a container fire on board in Banda Aceh Sabang, western Sumatra.

According to the MRCC Port Klang and Banda Aceh Maritime Safety officials, a fire broke out in one or more containers, prompting the ship to reverse course and travel to Banda Aceh for firefighting help. According to reports, the crew could put out the fire on their own, but as a precaution, the Banda Aceh SAR boat and tug splashed water on the containers at the fire site to cool them down. The CMA CGM LISA MARIE continued its cruise following the fire safety declaration.

The fire erupted when the ship, laden with containers, was on its way from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to Port Klang, Malaysia, said Budiono, head of Basarnas Banda Acehs. He also added that the ship arrived in Banda Aceh Sabang when one of the containers caught fire, suspected to be caused by a short circuit.

The ship where the fire erupted then sent out distress signals to Port Klang, Malaysia, after which the message was forwarded to Basarnas Banda Aceh to ask for help to extinguish the fire. When Banda Aceh's search and rescue team arrived on the scene, Budiono said the fire had been extinguished. However, to ensure safety, the search and rescue team checked the ship's condition and all crew members.

After that, the container ship "CMA CGM LISA MARIE" resumed sailing and continued to Port Klang, Malaysia, while the search and rescue team returned to Port Ulee Lheue in Banda Aceh.
