In 2021, MSC strived to bid for ITA Airways, an established Italian air carrier, in vain. On September 27, 2022, MSC officially signed a long-term contract with Atlas Air for the right to use 4 Boeing Co. freighters.
The CEO of MSC, Soren Toft, has stated that MSC would continue its efforts to explore different ways to develop the air cargo market with the vision of complementing its core business of container shipping. Besides, the air freight capacity would be cemented.
